A client’s grandmother contacted a DRLA CLOP Ombudsman to report concerns of her grandson’s safety and well-being. He was a resident of a large group home and she was concerned about excessive weight loss and replacement cost for continued missing/damaged property. The resident also alleged forced sexual interaction, repeated peer assault, and suffered major injury in restraint after being assaulted by a peer. They wanted immediate transfer from the group home.
The Ombudsman collaborated with other regional Ombudsmen for assistance with possible placement. The resident was moved to a smaller community home near his family and is adjusting well. DRLA assisted the resident in regaining compensation for requested missing/damaged property.
The resident has also received and is considering a waiver offer. The Ombudsman wrote multiple HSS complaints and notified Medicaid Fraud of the abuse at the larger group home. DRLA team continues to collaborate for agency change.
