Mr. J., who in his 40s, lives with bipolar disorder, depression, substance use disorder, and HIV. After serving 18 months in prison, he was homeless, unemployed, and owing $891 to courts and $2,251 to Social Security. He wanted his own apartment, a steady job, and to get off SSI.
His FAIR case manager helped him create a resume that highlighted his skills and experience. FAIR then connected him to a benefits counselor to manage his entitlements and a re-entry employment agency, which helped him secure a job as a restaurant host, earning over $1,400 a month.
Mr. J developed a savings plan with his FAIR Case Manager and as a result he will be able to cover a rental deposit and has a debt management plan to organize and prioritize his debts.
