A Specialty court referred Timothy,* (name changed to protect confidentiality) who has an autoimmune disorder and a substance use disorder, to FAIR shortly after being incarcerated in Orleans Justice Center. At the time he was living in a transitional home.
His case manager helped him develop his resume and cover letters,
and assisted him in an online job search. He secured full time employment as a restaurant server.
Afterwards, his case manager connected him with contracting partner JAC, who helped him cut his legal debt by over 50%. Alleviating his legal and financial debt burden was pivotal for his
self-sufficiency and helped him save his disposable income and move into his own apartment.
While working at a restaurant he earned $1,600 per month and was actively working towards suspending his SSI payments while maintaining his healthcare. He learned to manage his reduced debt burden while maintaining his rent, utilities, and phone bill. After being laid off due to COVID-19, his case manager has been available to support him in his unemployment application and to help him look for other jobs that will not jeopardize his health.
